Mia is a drug addict. She, her brother, his girlfriend and a
couple they are friends with come to this lonely cabin in the woods. There, Mia takes an oath of never touching the
drugs again. One of the girls is a nurse and she talks to the brother about how
a relapse can occur. They decide that come what may they won’t allow Mia to
touch the stuff.
They find a room under the floor which has dead cats and a
book written with blood and on human flesh. They bring it up. One of the five
is an occult enthusiast and ends up unleashing an evil spirit. They are warned
they would be dead by dawn. Will any of them survive?
The original Evil Dead was great fun. Bruce Campbell and
Raimi did something which was and still is pretty difficult to do. They made a
mainstream horror movie which had a comic overtone. The chills weren’t muted.
Actually, the light moments somehow had made the horror more impactful and
jarring to the viewer.
This is a pointless remake. Not only is the original script
trampled on, the director pisses on it and sets it on fire. Forget the thrills
and the shocks. This is a boring movie with characters the viewer cannot
identify or sympathize with. All of them are horrible actors and made me cringe
with their dialogue delivery.
The marketing campaign for the movie was pretty shrill what
with it being described as the most terrifying experience the watcher can have.
It raised my expectations and helped the movie at the U.S. box office. I had even ordered special head phones to immerse
myself in the evil dead experience. However, this is bullshit of the highest order.
Stay away from this if you are not a masochist.
This was subtitled Dead by Dawn. A better name would have
been Dead by Yawn. This is a mind numbing piece of steaming crap and is the
worst movie I have seen in the past three months.
