Lacy Barett wakes up one night and goes to the kitchen. She finds
signs of an intrusion. After double checking the locks on all the doors, she
again wakes up the next night to see something which disturbs her profoundly.
Her younger child claims to have an invisible friend
Sandman. Her husband experiences nosebleeds. Both the elder Baretts experience
blackouts. There are episodes involving birds. What in the name of sweet Jesus
is happening?
This is one of those little known horror movies, with
elements of Sci-fi thrown in for good measure, which keep the viewer hooked in
throughout the run time and after the end credits have rolled, the watcher doesn’t
feel as if he has wasted his time watching tripe.
The chills are genuine and more often than not, end up
raising goose bumps. There is no gore which was a relief after all the splatter
fests which I have seen recently. The characters are not caricatures and their
behavior is something which can be identified with.
The acting is surprisingly good. Keri Rusell and Josh Hamilton
deserve a pat on the back for playing the caring yet bickering couple. The others
also do a competitive job and never let this slide into the territory of farce.
There are clichés but they are well done and hence actually
end up enhancing the entertainment/scare quotient.
This is a must watch for the thriller/horror junkies. It might
leave you slightly rattled but the feeling would be akin to a ride on the merry
go round. You may feel dizzy but there would also be the warm feeling of
satisfaction in the pit of your stomach.
