Killing them softly(2012)

4/5

I had absolutely no expectations going in to the movie. it had bombed on the box office, the critics had described this as a potential career killer for Brad Pitt. Well I have one thing to say to them all. Fuck you.

This is a fantastic crime movie based on the book Coogan's trade from 1974. Three guys knock over a mafia protected card game. Brad Pitt is brought by the mafia to hunt down the guys.

The initial action focuses on the preparation of the guys, the repartee and the camaraderie. the dialogues are often funny. it culminates in an intense heist scene. On the acting front, James Gandolfini is the one who got the maximum laughs. he has amazingly vulgar lines and he delivers them perfectly. he is in the form of his life as Pitt recommended killer who has become too soft. Liotta gets sympathy from the viewing public and is pretty good as the organizer of the game which gets robbed. Pitt's decision to star in this must be applauded because this is no star vehicle. he has pretty little screen time but does fantastically well in it.

the direction was top notch. the commentary which runs in the background talking about American economy can be related easily with the mafia and is a stroke of genius. all n all loved this.

  1. I thought It was well taken by the critics...got a 75% rating in rotten tomatoes!

I personally felt like..."what was the point" of it? what makes the story stand out?! Again, brad Pitt's acting was great and the movie has style but other than that, not something that I am going to look back and appreciate a great deal! then again, I might be biased as the genre doesn't really work for me!
